Migration Wonders

This Spring has been quite an exciting time in our neighborhood. The weather can’t make up its mind – Winter? Summer?…

A week ago we set a record for the all time low temperature on that date. Two days later (no kidding) we set an all time record high for that date. 26 to 106. What a ride.

The birds don’t seem to mind too much – especially when we keep the feeders full. The Baltimore Orioles love the grape jelly and orange halves we set out. We also have Catbirds, Brown-headed Cowbirds, American Goldfinches, Robins, Wrens, the occasional Woodpecker, Sparrows, Grackles  and Mourning Doves – and that’s just in our backyard.

American Avocets along the shore

The American Avocets you see here were along the shore of the reservoir for the power plant in town. It’s a great place to drive around and occasionally produces a few photo opportunities. There were about a dozen Avocets on the day we were there.
